SA Health publishes how busy each emergency department is. This reads it every few minutes.
If it is not an emergency
An emergency department is for emergencies, and the wait below is the wait for people who are not the sickest person in the room. For anything else these are faster, and they are free:
- Your GP. Many practices keep same-day appointments for urgent problems. Ring them first.
- healthdirect, 1800 022 222. A registered nurse, any hour of any day, who will tell you where to go.
- Children. The Women's and Children's runs a free virtual urgent care service for ages six months to eighteen years, 9am to 9pm.
- Mental health. SA's Mental Health Triage Service, 13 14 65, any hour of any day.
The seven metro departments
Country and outer hospitals
These report once an hour and publish no wait time, so all that can be shown is how full each one was on the hour. Many are small emergency services rather than a full department, with different hours and different staffing. Ring ahead.
